Does breastfeeding method influence infant weight gain?
Arch Dis Child 2007; 0: adc.2006.107102v1

Mike Woolridge and Jenny Ingram (authors of the research this study
apparantly set out to disprove) wrote a rapid reply
and now the study authors have replied to that, if it is of interest to you,
you can find these at:

http://adc.bmj.com/cgi/eletters/adc.2006.107102v1

Also, in defense -- or perhaps explanation -- of the authors (although I
hated the study) and of fair play (obviousy I have absorbed a few
traditional British values, sorry chaps), in the UK there is a great deal of
pressure on women to get theri babies' weight to match the centiles on the
chart and this is not acheived by many breastfeeding couples, so there is
pressure to find a way to match weight gain norms and maintain breastfeeding
at the same time, in the cultural ether here in the UK. Its going to be one
heck of a shock to all if we do have the adoption of the WHO chart for the
early years (consulation period on this ending today) and everyone realises
that the centiles on the WHO chart are actually ABOVE those on the UK90
chart we currently use during the first 6 months or so.......

I am booking a ringside seat, its so gripping this.

Disclaimer: I have been saying for years that the WHO chart alone is not
going to solve the UK's problems and I have an interest in being proved
right!
