I'm sure you'll hear from others much more knowledgeable than I - but I can
attest to the fact that one mother I saw (in my 30 years as an IBCLC and 40
as a La Leche League Leader) had a totally "blind breast" - NO ducts to the
exterior of her breast.  Perhaps now (this was years ago) with plastic
surgery that could be corrected (I keep wondering about using the small
tubes used to open tear ducts).  

 

I worked with her for comfort measures (cold compresses as no extraction was
possible) on the one side until it involuted (a couple of weeks) and helping
her vary her position in the breast that worked to reduce nipple soreness.
She continued well, breastfeeding on one side and using tissue inside the
bra on the other side so they would not be so obviously different (until she
got used to it.then she stopped with that).  Baby exclusively breastfed fine
on the one breast, and after involution, no discomfort or infections
occurred.

feel qualified to confirm the statement:

"Half of the information we teach today is wrong.the trouble is, we don't
