Dear Lactnuts, yesterday a received a call from a mother of a 7 month old.
Had been to her pediatrician and pedi asked her how baby was sleeping. She
said "Not very well. Baby wants to feed every 2 hours during the night. Baby
wakes up and wants the breast to go back to sleep." She cosleeps and stated
that she feels that the baby isn't really hungry, just likes the breast in her
mouth to sleep. Mom is exhausted. Physician said this is not normal and she
needs to give baby benedryl.
I was shocked, but then I just read a post about a mom who gave her twins
benedryl to get them to sleep at night. Is this an older "remedy"? Sounds
drastic to me.

One more scenario: This happens alot where I work. Moms call complaining
that sleep sharing is working for them just fine but their husbands are
sleeping on the couch or in the other room because the baby keeps them awake
during the night. Mom is unhappy. Wants husband back but feels baby would
resist. Both moms that called me about this had babies over 6 months old.
What are your thoughts? TIA. Loni Denman, RN, IBCLC
