To all IBCLCs,

It was brought to my attention today that IBLCE has distributed a new IBCLC
Scope of Practice. The perception among many who have received this document
is that it was formally approved by the ILCA Board of Directors. I want to
clarify this misperception. We were given an opportunity to give input on
this document in March of 2006 and we submitted quite a few revisions.
Apparently some significant revisions were not incorporated into the final
version that was approved by the IBLCE Board. The ILCA Board did not see a
final version of this document.

Having previously served as the ILCA Secretary, I now how easy it is to send
out what appears to be a final, clean version and discover that mistakes
were made. The ILCA Board is meeting this week (hence the short response)
and will carefully review the document again. We will then contact the IBLCE
board.

Thank you to those of you who brought this to my attention so I can quickly
allay these rumors.
Becky Mannel
President
ILCA Board of Directors
