I developed this "responsibilities" form after a disastrous experience with
a mom who was clueless about her child's needs.

<Letterhead of sponsoring organization / course director>

Students in courses are expected to:

.	Come prepared to learn, take notes and fully participate in all
learning activities. Arrive and leave on a schedule that permits full
participation in course activities. Take responsibility for obtaining books
and reference materials from medical libraries and other appropriate
professional sources.
.	Expand thinking and practices beyond their current employment
setting, any personal breastfeeding experiences, and local or cultural
beliefs.
.	Be nurturing and attentive to any and all breastfeeding babies
brought to class, including a student's own baby and any other babies
present. Modeling on-cue breastfeeding and "attachment parenting" is an
appropriate and valuable addition to the didactic material in the course
because the concepts of awareness of and responsiveness to babies'
developmental needs is an integral part of professional breastfeeding care.
.	Be responsible to class and self when asking questions, especially
on those concepts that challenge previous assumptions and beliefs regarding
lactation management.
.	Respectfully ask for clarification of policies, content, course
materials, and procedures.

Faculty members are expected to:

.	Begin and end course sessions on time, including breaks.
.	Prepare and present course material in a sequential, cohesive,
orderly manner that enhances learning.
.	Present the theory, documented rationale, and research available for
all material, and delineate any personal opinions from research-based or
theory-driven concepts.
.	Make adjustments to depth of content coverage based on evaluations
received.
.	Maintain a flexible learning environment where all legitimate
questions are answered fully in an orderly manner before the end of the
course.
.	Take any necessary actions so that the learning needs of all
students are met.
.	Meet with individual students during breaks and after class to
further clarify any specific areas of controversy, confusion or disagreement
that may arise.

I agree with and promise to adhere to the above Student Responsibilities:
