Hi there. Your students, all 48 of them, are welcome to post on Lactnet.
This is the place for it, and since I created this list some 11 years ago
March, I feel I can say that with perfect authority.

I have been thinking recently about sharing skill. My favorite thing in the
world to do professionally is to help a mother and baby become more
comfortably with breastfeeding on a one to one basis. I also love to
teach... I recently started thinking it over, and I have volunteered to go
to my local hospital, where I have several kind colleagues, but also where
there are many young nurses, and work with mothers for a morning per month.
Anyone and everyone who is interested can watch me work. This is important
to do..to pass on the skills we have, and to talk about them, hash them out
(not in front of the mother, certainly, but later, time to talk about the
whys and the decisions made)...and to show others what I do with my hands
when I am in a consult. Action speaks louder than words, I find, and since I
am now in my late 40s, and dealing with some kind of chronic connective
tissue disorder of unknown origin, I have been feeling that I want my work
to continue on no matter what. And I love colleagues, and we all learn so
much from each other. That is why Lactnet was born...March 1995, because
mothers and babies matter to me, and they mattered to Kathleen Auerbach as
well when she was involved and with me when Lactnet started.

I urge everyone to show their skills to their colleagues, talk about it, and
become familiar with another LC's ways of doing work. Sometimes, a small
tip will filter through and will help the next mother you work with, and the
next.... And so on...

So, students, onwards, upwards, and onto the list. The students os N. D.
make us proud with their research and their intelligent questions, and their
use of the archives to research past opinions/statements (for Lactnet posts
are opinions, only, and need to be backed by research if a life is hanging
in the balance).

Cheers, and moving on and through with a mild winter, here in Vermont.

Kathleen
