Hmmm, this is _very_ unusual, yes....

Have you _seen_ this baby nursing direct, and then vomiting after breastfeeds?

If not, I'd be a bit cynical and firstly, would be wondering if mom
is asking for permission to stop breastfeeding (actually she already
has!) but now to stop pumping too because she's "tired".

Secondly, nipple shields do not "tear up nipples", so she's really
doing everything to avoid putting baby direct to breast.

I think I'd be doing some serious PR for breastmilk, the product, and
letting her know the risks of going over to the other stuff, compared
to the very real and wonderful benefits of carrying on giving EBM,
affirming her efforts.....while gently trying to explore just what's
really going on.

I hope you can let us know the outcome.

Subject: vomiting after direct feeds but not EBM in bottle

Been a long time since I posted: stumped on this one.
3 month old boy, mediocre weight gain (not terrible though), has
been spitting up since early on. He began vomiting breastfed
breastmilk at about a month Mother is now only bottlefeeding EBM,
which the baby tolerates beautifully, he takes 3oz in 10 minutes or
less. She is really tired of pumping. When I suggested a (choke)
nipple shield, she said she had already tried it and that it "tore
up" her nipples.

Any thoughts?
Isabella
