Permission to post. First time mom exclusively breastfeeding 3 1/2 mo old
baby. 2 mo ago noted grape sized plugged duct. Mom used all the measures
typically recommended for clearing plugged ducts. Saw OB, sent her for US.
US said solid mass. Sent to mammogram after diagnosis of solid mass.
Mammogrram said not solid but liquid and after the mammogram the lump grew
to 3 cm, probably from the pressure of the machine. Grrr. Then to breast US,
diagnosed galactocele and needle aspiration of 50 ml milk. Could not clear
gelatinous residual. One week later, resumed same size as before aspiration.
Surgeon wanted to wait on it. Finished a course of dicloxacillin. Two weeks
later, felt very full again and surgeon needle aspirated 77 ml.
Two days ago, reported rupture through the outer side of her right breast,
leaking milk and blood through a 2-3 mm hole. Mom reports the area before
rupture became red, then purple, then 3 small reddened areas appeared and
one of them opened up.
Possible tissue necrosis in the skin from pressure of the cyst? No fever, no
pus, no pain. Continues successfully BF. Going tomorrow to Breast US surgeon
for follow up/treatment. Has small bandage over hole and changes breast pad
every feed, with 3 cm spot of blood and milk. During daily shower, she
pushes the cyst empty as much as possible. Went over scrupulous handwashing,
changing bandage and breast pad each feed.
Has any one seen this before? Any comments/wisdom to share?
Than you -
