I personally never had a problem with it, but I also never had any real
problems with my births or breastfeeding, so that is probably the
difference.
Now that the WAB is so big, I find that it intimidates some moms, so I
suggest moms use it as a reference to look up answers for questions, plus
read the basic sections to help her get started. Occasionally, I get a mom
who is a bigtime reader and she will read it cover to cover, but most often
I have to describe a couple of books for the mom to make a choice according
to her reading desires.
What I do push is that each mother have a BREASTFEEDING book! I point
out that when a book tries to cover everything from fevers to potty
training, it probably doesn't promote any one thing in detail or completely,
and they don't really care if you succeed at breastfeeding because they also
discuss bottle-feeding. Just like if she was taking a class in biology, she
wouldn't use a general science textbook. I also suggest moms check out the
used book stores, even thought the WAB is very reasonably priced for the
amount of information it contains.
