I have been working with a mother recently whose baby is sleepy to the
extreme. The baby is one week old and when she is asleep she is floppy as a
rag doll. We undressed her, changed her diaper, weighed her on a cold scale
and she remained asleep and was as relaxed as a rag doll.

Mother says at night she is more alert and active but not to the extreme.

My question is this. Mother had very high blood pressure prior to birth
(190/?). She was on magnesium through 24 hours after the birth. She is not
on any meds now.

I looked up Magnesium and didn't find references to this as a side effect.
Did I miss something? Could this extreme sleepiness be caused by the
Magnesium or the mom's high blood pressure prior to birth?
