For the mom whom Ilene posted about who has a baby with allergic type
symptoms, she says,

Prior to calling me, mom eliminated dairy from her diet for 14 days and
saw no real improvement.

I would ask if she truly eliminated *all* dairy first. This sounds like it
could be an allergy and for a truly allergic child (I know. I had one) ANY
dairy, contained in any food elicits the symptoms. Eliminating all dairy is
not so simple as just cutting out milk and cheese. Check first and see if
she truly did eliminate all dairy in any form (this includes "whey",
contained in many packaged foods.) Then, it could be an allergy to
something else. There are many on LN who are far more knowledgeable about
the other common allergens than I and a search of the archives should bring
that information up. The statement, "She brings her legs up even in her
sleep and cries in pain" made me think of my daughter who had a dairy
allergy and who was in constant movement (drawing up legs, 'wiggling'
because her belly hurt) for 2 months until we completely eliminated dairy.
I even gave her children's Tylenol with codeine because it allowed her to
sleep. I know some may shudder at that, but I figured for a child who was
obviously hurting, anything that relieved that for a while was not a bad
thing. (Please no flames, we all do what we think best out of love for our
children.) Even in her sleep, she was never 'still'. I wonder, also, if
this could be a foremilk/hindmilk ithing? I know you would think not since
mom is breastfeeding from the same breast for 3-4 hrs, but with an
oversupply, is this possible? The symptoms would suggest it as a
possibility. In either case, I would think weight gain would be an issue,
but it appears it isn't. Oversupply might be a good for that in any case!
Just my thoughts.
