Thanks Alicia...You are correct.  An MRI is in order.  The last time I dealt
with this, the only option I was given (actually the patient was given) by
the HMO was an ultrasound (which, from what I now know, could not have been
terribly helpful).  That was 8 years ago.  This time the patient's internist
has started the ball rolling with the HMO for an MRI.  She was very glad to
have someone who "knew" something about what prolactin levels should be in a
5 mo pp lacating mom (THANKS to Riordan and Auerbach's text and everyone who
responded).   The interist seemed to think that surgery was the preferred
treatment.  Is that your opinion if a patient has a prolactinoma?  I thought
they could be managed medically.   I'll keep you and everyone else posted on
this evolving case.
