I just wanted to let you know something good that happened to me the other
day. I am the only LC in my hospital, and as far as I know, the whole
county. I am in the Education Department. Most everyone else in this
department only does staff education. I am very vocal when it comes to
breastfeeding, especially regarding the benefits to mom and baby. I always
tell everyone in my department whenever I read or hear some new research
about breastfeeding. I was in the secretary's office the other day with the
secretary and the education manager, when one of the hospital's maintenance
guys walked in to register himself & his wife for Lamaze class. The
secretary, as she always does, asked him if she'd like to sign up for
breastfeeding class. He said, "She's not sure yet whether she wants to
breastfeed or not." Before I could open my mouth, the nurse manager and the
secretary started telling him that she should and giving him numerous
reasons why. I bet they went on for 15-20 minutes. Needless to say, he went
ahead and signed her up. Would you believe that neither of these ladies
breastfed? I was so proud of them and told them so. Just goes to show you
that you may think no one is listening and that you are just talking to hear
yourself talk, but you would be suprised whom you can influence.  ;-)
