I use the cross cradle when what ever the mother is already doing, isn't
working well for her. I find that mothers position the baby far better in
this hold than in a traditional cradle and can help the baby to both open
his mouth wide and latch on deeply. I explain to the mother that this hold
is temporary, while the two of them are getting used to breastfeeding, and
teach her how to be comfortable. I also encourage the mothers to use this
hold for the latch only and not the entire feed. For me it has been a
tremendously useful tool.
All the best,
Chayn in Israel, IBCLC RN
