I posted about my siblings and I - born between 1955 and 1962. I was the only one who had any breastmilk - for 6 weeks - and we were all fed the milk, Karo, poly-vi-sol concoction until we were around 6 months old. We were also fed cereal and jarred baby food from just a few weeks old. My mother gained the most weight when she was pregnant with me - 22 lbs. With the other pregnancies, she stayed under 20 lbs as her doctor ordered... and she did that by smoking and eating a lot of cottage cheese. :-/ None of us were very large. I was the biggest baby at 7 lbs 5 oz... the others were as small as 5 lbs 8 oz. All full term... and all fat as butterballs by the time we were a few months old.

  Amazingly, all of us survived. I have no dead siblings.

  OK. I've got to know, how many of these milk-feds were fed milk and
Karo, or such, exclusivley from birth, and without other food
supplements for several months. And then, how many dead siblings do
they have? I think the other foods helped with the survival, and a large
number of those told (I'm not referring to any of you; just "those" in
general), they were raised on this or that had some weeks of breastmilk
and then many other foods as well. Also, the nutrition of the mother is
a component. Many of the moms before say the 50's or 60's would have
been well nourished (and allowed to gain weight during pregnancy);
especially those farm moms. Some (especially larger) babies may have
had enough stores of certain nutrients to get by for some time without
them in diet. The blend of milk, meat, fruits, vegetables and grains that
someone mentioned was probably the best artificial feed of all. linda
