My apologies to any I offended with my post re: the teen mom who was
formula feeding and stated it would be easier and cheaper for her
because of WIC. What I meant by being able to discuss how WIC "works (or
doesn't)" was due to the conversation I had with the mom and other
nurses who thought that WIC indeed supplies the full amount of formula.
I meant, "it doesn't work that way"; WIC provides only a portion of what
is required. I also described how moms can get other food when they are
breastfeeding and that they can combine packages if they breastfeed
partially and formula feed partially. I know that WIC is very supportive
of breastfeeding and I always tell the moms that I care for who have WIC
to seek out breastfeeding support from WIC and that WIC is a great
resource for them. I am sorry I was unclear before and I apologize again
if I offended anyone.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Williams
