Fritzi mentioned using them only when needed.  I agree.  I wondered
why my daughters were so opposed to them, very early in life, although
they removed obstructions to breathing and nursing, so one day I tried
it on myself.  What an annoying feeling!  Try it sometime.  It isn't
like blowing your nose, but instead *pulllls* the mucous out.  I
suspect that if physicians who doubt the oral aversive possibities of
suctioning tried it, they would be equally amazed at the annoyance
potential and may find a more gentle suctioning manner.  Babies are
primarily oral; their early world is explored orally as the rest is a
given, meaning touch.
