Ann states:

Now here is my question and dilemma. If the majority of the weight loss
is
in the first 24 hours is this an accurate gauge? I have seen very
healthy
babies loss up to a pound in their first 24 hours (this is with at least
6
breastfeedings and adequate urine and stool outputs).

This is why I theorize that we would be better off to take the 24 hour
weight to compare against for the next few weeks. Birth weight is
artificially high since it includes the meconium that's been
"collecting" through the last weeks or more of the pregnancy. Do some
babies have "extra fluid on board" at first? I know one study questions
whether this is happening. (Hopefully there will be more that either
validate the initial results or indicate more study needed.)

Winnie
