As Carolyn pointed out, mainstream advice in the UK is to carry on bf with
a vomitting baby, and indeed, to carry on with formula with maybe dioralyte
(rehydration salts) for a baby older than 3 mths.

The old advice for formula fed babies was to give 'half strength feeds'. A
little while ago a mother called me having been gven this advice by her
family doctor. 'But I am bf' she said. 'In that case' said the doctor,
'express your milk, double its volume with water, and give it in a
bottle.' Sigh.

Not that long ago a bf mother took her 2 wk old baby to the A&E department
worried because the baby seemed to be feverish. When the
wet-behind-the-ears doctor saw the contents of the baby's nappy (yellow,
soft, *normal*) he told her her baby had diarrhoea, to stop bf and to give
dioralyte in a bottle...fortunately, the mother knew better, but such was
the bolt to her confidence, she had to call me to confer, even though she
knew fine well the doctor was talking out of somewhere that wasn't his
mouth.....

Tricky for us, as we are not supposed to contradict medical advice. My
usual tactic is to say 'get a second opinion' and to send or read out
something from a textbook which is correct.
