Dear fellow Lactnetters--

Kathleen Bruce has asked me to remind all of you of the importance of
being sure you are running an antivirus program on your computer, such as
Norton, which updates itself regularly.

I have received 2 emails containing a virus since signing back onto
Lactnet last week. I did not become infected with the virus b/c I followed
"the rules" of:

1. NEVER download or open attachments unless you can absolutely verify the
sender and the contents. You CANNOT get a virus just from an email; you must
open the attachment or download info.

2. Run a good antivirus program at all times on your computer

3. Check out all suspicious "virus warnings" on one of the many sites that
will verify or alert you to hoaxes. You should look at a few of these sites
and then bookmark them to use in the future. Always check these things out
before forwarding them. Most of these scams work b/c people, being
well-meaning, send the warnings to everyone they know without verifying the
validity of them.

One good site for debunking hoaxes is:
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blhoax.htm

A good one for searching about REAL viruses is Symantec:
http://www.sarc.com/search/

Please try to follow these rules so that you do not spread real viruses
unintentionally or unreal ones intentionally!!!

Thanks,
