Someone recently commented on "glom onto". It means get hold of or get
possession of, but in a particular way. In my usage and experience it has
connotations of almost instinctive, sudden, irresistible attraction,
attachment and incorporation, with humorous overtones. You can glom onto
something tangible like a cookie (biscuit) or something abstract like
information. To me it imples single-minded unswerving purposefulness until
the mission is fulfilled. Quite a lot like latching on!
It used to be just "glom" without the "onto" and meant to steal something
(slang).

In return...was it Renate or someone else from Australia who said, if I
remember correctly, that someone "hadn't a
buckleys"...something. ????? Any Australians care to share on that one?

Elise
