I'm hoping to get some of your collective wisdom.

I've just seen a mom with a 5 week old. Her nipples have been sore from day one. She kept hearing that sometimes breastfeeding hurt so she was just going to tough it out. Her nipples are actually healing now, but clearly they've been quite injured. The baby's latch looks perfect. No kidding, it's one of the best positioning and latching couples I've seen. Baby transferred almost 5 oz. in a 20 minute nursing session. He clicks while actively sucking. Mom has a copious supply and obvious let down. The only thing I discovered on my physical exam was that he had an exceptionally high palate, hence the clicking. I suggested a complete oral exam by her pediatrician because I didn't see a tight frenulum, but wanted to be sure. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what else to recommend. We worked with getting more breast tissue in on top to "plug" and compensate for the palate issue. Since I left I've wished I suggested CST, and may call her later with some referrals for that. What else to help with this? Anything besides pumping until the baby grows?

Thanks in Advance,
