Hi Chi-Yong,
I'm Catching up on lactnet, I hope you students know how lucky you are to be
getting such great bf education and you will positively influence mom and
baby health in the years to come!

Re the mom who says her meds contraindicate bf. You can share the info with
her on diabetes meds, benefits to the diabetic mom and benefit to
baby....however, I think you need to explore with her the reasons she seems
opposed to bf and wants to bottle feed. Don't put it that way, but rather
than continuing to bring info for now, just ask some leading questions and
try to get into her expectations about the birth, her previous experience,
and get into feeding or infant care in general. You might find out what some
of her barriers are. You might find she is embarrased, needs to return to
work, feels she will be tied down, whatever. Practice your listening skills
and counseling skills like reflection, etc.

Right now I think she is balking against you, so let her do the talking and
exploring. In later meetings, Leave her info on bf and she can always decide
to do it after the baby comes even weeks later.
Let us know how it goes. Keep up the good work. And remember you won't
always convince every client to do the healthy things.
p.s. are you married? you won't always be able to convince your spouse to do
the right things either! ha ha :)
