If we were to lose this valuable resource, I would feel a great hole in
my personal and professional life. I have only been a part of it for a
couple years. In that time I have gotten to know many of my peers from
around the workd. When I run into a puzzling clinical situation, I can
go to the archives and get input and suggestions to help me. I can put
out a question to the entire group and get suggestions not only from
others in my own locale, but from around the US, from Canada, Germany,
Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Norway, England and who knows where
else. Help varies from the anecdotal "I tried this and it worked" to
solid references to a wide veriety of journal articles we might not hear
about anywhere else. How else could one "pick the brains" of others
working with nursing moms/babies with such a wide variety of
experiences, expertises etc. In addition, it is a place where we can
express some of the frustrations we experience in our work and get, if
not solutions, at least acknowledgement of our feelings and
encouragement to keep working through the rough spots. When those we
work with just don't "get it" about something we are trying to do,
contact with our Lactnet friends helps to validate what we are trying to
accomplish as well as suggestions on dealing with those who "don't get
it".
In short, Lactnet is a place to learn, share, vent, laugh, cry. I am
ever so grateful to those who provide, oversee, etc. this irreplacable
resource. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Winnie Mading, RNC, IBCLC, hospital-based Lactation Consultant
