I have been communicating long-distance (I'm thousands of miles away or I
would have been there already!) with my sister in law, who, despite a visit
from an experienced IBCLC and skin to skin and even the use of a pump after
feedings has still not been able to feed her 2 week old baby 100% at the
breast and has had to resort to formula

She had a c/section and her husband remembers that they had trouble with
the placenta, so this plus her continuing clotting and bleeding makes us
all believe she has retained placenta - even her pediatrician agrees - BUT
the OB does not, as she does not "soak a pad an hour".

As she has been unable to work with the OB (who recently did not return her
calls), and she has used natural remedies for other situations, she
wondered if there are any specific herbs that she could use, at least for
the weekend, to try to get the placental fragments to detach? She agrees
she will probably need a D & C, but as this is a 3-day weekend, she wants
to avoid this until Tuesday.

I have of course encouraged her to go to the ER as the bleeding and
clotting must have her very anemic and VERY tired, as well as the
breastfeeding, pumping, feeding, etc. I am very concerned about postpartum
depression, as she has had depression before.

Any suggestions?
