Hi all,

I may be a bit behind, as I haven't been "on" for a couple of days.
Interestingly enough, there is a correlation between some types of
infertility problems and milk production, though I'm not sure what, nor could
I document it beyond personal observation and clinical experience. These
moms have a prolactin level of <10 week one, and no increase during
stimulation. It is rare - but it is there. (These are usually moms that
have major problems and need IVF or GIFT - and it doesn't happen with all of
them, either).

No milk supply after major pp hemorrhage is also another reality - Sheehan's
syndrome, due to infarct of the pituitary. Generally seen after hemorrhage
so bad the mom goes into shock. Baby does OK in first few days because of
colostrum, but then there isn't anything. Prolactin levels (of moms I have
worked with) are around 2 or 3 with no increase r/t sucking. Milk never
"comes in" despite stimulation (pumping and SNS). Again, this is rare, but
awfully important to know about -- just in case. In the 10 years I've been
working as an LC, I've probably dealt with 5 or 6. Other thyroid
insufficiency problems will show up later - dry skin, thinning hair, cold,
infertility....
