Dr Jack Newman's Guide to Breastfeeding (2000) p 105 says "I ask a mother
to stay on the nifedipine for two weeks and then try going off the
medication.  Usually the Raynaud's [ie vasospasm] does not return;
sometimes it does, though in a less severe form. If the pain returns and
treatment still seems necessary, the mother can go on another two weeks of
the medication. Usually, this will do the trick, but we did have one
mother who needed four, two-week courses..."
See the whole discussion, including other treatments medical and otherwise;
most importantly IMO he says that vasospasm is *usually* a *response* to
nipple trauma and that the underlying problem needs to be dealt with.
