Winnie, re the mom with hives. Since there are relatively safe medications
to use for hives, I wonder why this doctor wishes to use weaning as a
diagnostic tool, especially if the mother is not wanting to do this?

I would encourage her to request a bf-compatible drug therapy for hives,
and to explore other options before making the serious decision to wean,
and thus deprive her baby of breastmilk, a serious medical decision in and
of itself.
