This is a fascinating and jarring observation, that on a daily basis, new
moms are refusing skin-to-skin with their newborns. Whether a mom is
planning on breastfeeding or not, wouldn't the baby expect to be skin-to-skin with
all the neural and homeostatic organizing that is critical to happen then?
The "right" of the mom to her own body pitted against the "right" of a
baby to have access to her/his own mother coming in conflict. Shouldn't S2S be
the default expectation of all mother/baby dyads, and for very good
reasons? ( Medically speaking, I mean, not that all people necessarily understand
this already....)

What an uphill journey this is, when this simple thing that is not even
about breastfeeding per se, is so out of whack. Yes Brooklyn needs a
"cheerleader" for breastfeeding ( and how lovely it was to read the backlash
article in one of the City newspaper read by the families most likely in need of
such support), but so do you Laurie.

YAY, Laurie, GO Laurie, and everyone who does this work in a world where
moms refuse to "submit" to having their baby on their skin for a few minutes
after birth.

Peace,
Judy
