I think this is an excellent subject!!! I believe mentoring is SO important.
Many fields have a mentoring type relationship, MDs have a version of this
so to speak. As an OTR, I have worked in several teaching hospitals
mentoring OTs, PTs, and MD interns. The OT/PT system is set up as such that
a mentoring situation is required to graduate. The mentor does not charge. I
found  as a mentor you learn a lot from your mentee. It keeps you current
and fresh.  I  learned a tremendous amount from my mentors and felt in being
a mentor I was giving back to my profession. I also agree that it can be
time consuming and frequent breaks from mentoring were needed. As the field
of Lactation emerges this is something that will have to be explored more I
would imagine!
