Thanks, Katie, for the idea about using the Haberman feeding in a day care situation.
Years ago, I read a post from Diane Wiessinger, I think, about a bottle feeding technique that involved sitting the baby more upright, using a nipple with tiny holes, tickling the lower lip for "permission" to feed, encouraging the baby to draw the bottle nipple deeply in--to the plastic collar--then allowing ten good sucks before breaking suction and starting over at the tickle. When baby no longer opens for the nipple at the tickle means he is no longer hungry.
I suggested this technique to a mom who's caregiver gave her baby 9 ounces of expressed milk during a 2 hour period. Mom wanted to take a short break from baby, nursed before leaving, but also left the expressed milk. Mom called me saying she was not able to continue supplying the caregiver with expressed milk!
Does anyone else suggest this technique for offering the baby a little more control over a bottle feeding? Does it work?
Thanks,
Diane Dressler, LLL
