I just couldn't keep quiet any longer.... On seldane. I started to take it
about 1 year after I weaned Andrew as the allergy honeymoon I enjoyed during
my pregnancy and lactation seemed over. I noticed that I started leaking
clear fluid. Naturally I freaked, but nothing was found. Later I stumbled
onto this "side effect" of the drug (in "The Essential Guide to Prescription
Drugs 1991). It says under possible effects on sexual function: Altered
timing and pattern of menstruation. Female breast enlargement with milk
production. It also says that the presence of this drug in breast milk is
unknown (as of 1991).

When will medical professionals "get it" that human protein is different from
animal and vegetable protein?????? Pediatrics had 2 articles in several years
ago about babies who had anaphylactic reactions to hydrolyzed formula. I
think this mother should get a second opinion from a pediatric allergist.
This is not a situation to be taken lightly.

I have been looking for the articles and they must have moved into one of my
many "to be filed" piles.

As to the baby fed peanut butter and tea. In a word -- GAG--. It is truly
testament that some of these kids have lived given the experimental and
medically negligent diets they supposedly were prescribed. Any more, I am
not always sure I believe that the physician prescribed this. I had an
incident where the mother told the WIC office that the pediatric
gastroenterologist has recommended she put RAW egg into the baby's bottle of
formula. I checked this out with a dietitian who worked with that person and
it turned out that the mother had received the advice from a relative and the
physician had advised her NOT TO DO IT. (I don't mean to shout, but am at a
loss for how to add emphasis any other way.) I have heard of people who
pressed meat juice out of meat with a brick and fed the broth to their
children (when you are a dietitian, in addition to patients chasing you
around the hospital telling you all about their bowel habits, they also tell
you about their wierd family eating habits--its an education!!)

Whew, I am glad to get all this off my poor chest--now everyone can read my
T-shirt better,

Ta Ta, Queen of Piles--pray they don't shift or you may not hear from me for
weeks!
