The topic of the IBCLE and use of titles has come up again recently. I have
to comment.
It is this type of confusion that leaves the consumer (moms and babies)
totally in the dark and at the mercy of anyone who wants to call themself an
LC. All of us have had experiences with clients who saw ---- (LC) in hospital
or out and made a mess of the whole thing.
For the last 7 years I've been an LC for a large HMO. I am really lucky--if
something gets botched there's recourse, the doctors work with us not against
us etc... I won't go back to private practice unless I'm forced to.
I also teach for a university affiliated course. (All my fledgling LC's are
planning to take the exam when they meet the IBCLE requirements) I
personally feel that the IBCLE is firmly established as THE certification for
LC's. There is no *need* for me to take the exam but I feel like a hippocrite
telling my students to take the exam.
-so after 10 years in the business I will take the exam this July.

I haven't taken any test of this magnitude in a looong time. I'm a bit
nervous.
I don't have the time to take a review course before the test: Any ideas on
home study courses? I did home study books with practice exams years ago
(won't say how many) for the RN boards. I know I have a tendancy to analyze
a question before I answer it (I fill in the *blanks* which makes the
question more complicated than it really is and usually makes my answer
wrong).

It might be better to post study ideas to the list for all of us who will be
taking the test.
