Tomas Hale does not report siin discoloraton other than on the treated spot in his monograph in the 2008 edition of MMM, nor does he mention any systemic uptake after topical use as directed. I use and sell GV for several years now and use user report forms and have never had any report of this kind of skin reaction on other parts of the skin than the ones treated or spoiled upon.
I strongly suggest mom seeks advice from a pediatric dermatologist.

Mom has been painting the inside of baby's mouth with a q-tip dipped in the Gentian Violet as instructed by her doctor. I did check that mom wasn't giving it by dropper or otherwise feeding it to baby. Baby is 8 weeks old, so it's not birth trauma, and baby is healthy with no indications of systemic issues. I've also checked that mom hadn't accidentally dropped it on baby's head. She said that it is very obvious on baby's scalp as multiple small purple dots. She has spoken with a nurse who told her that the uptake of gentian violet is huge, and that spots on the scalp are possible but rare. It's not something I've ever heard of, and so far I can't find any information on-line.
