Baby's sense of smell is particularly important. We know he can pick out
his own mother by smell very early on. Baby also needs to be colonised with
mother's bugs from the home environment to provide extra protection in the
NICU. I can see no reason why the chest area should be sanitised. I have
heard this advocated before.

Not that I have ever heard, in my hospital's NICU or any other in my region.
Nils Bergman never suggested it - and he has babies literally tied on,
incubating on mom's body. - or dad's or gramma's if mom is not available.
