Hi all
I actually can't see any good reason to sit the exam any more. My first
degrees are in Arts and Education. My postgrad qualifications are in
Applied Philosophy (Ethics) and I am currently enrolled in a Masters of
Public Health and a PhD in Health Sciences (Population Health) - so I am not
a licenced health care provider. I am also studying to attain a nationally
recognised tertiary qualification in Breastfeeding Education. I plan to
take a Diploma of Breastfeeding Education at some time in the future.
Adding IBCLC to my alphabet soup would add nothing to my capacity to help
mothers.
On another note, I have just heard that the disciplinary committee has (and
I do not believe this is the first time) exhonorated an IBCLC who allowed
her name and image to be used to promote infant formula and provided advice
to mothers from that company's website. I wonder what the point of the
IBCLC registration is. I wonder why you all must take 5 ecerps a year when
the board clearly doesn't take its own CoE seriously.
