Dear Lactnetters:
A brief intorduction on myself - I'm actually Nancy Ferland, Nutritionist,
IBCLC and unfortunately I have to use my hubby's E-mail address. I've been
a lurker on Lactnet for over a year and have enjoyed all the incredibly
informative and lively discussion. My question I'd like to post concerns a
mom who has been diagnosed with Thrombocytopenia. She is 4 month pregnant
and has been told by doc that she will not be able to nurse her baby due to
the antibodies that she has produced and that her baby will "reject" her
milk. This makes little sense to me and the mom does not appear to know
much about her condition. she is afraid to question the doctor further .
Thrombocytopenia is a persistent decrease in the number of blood platelets.
I don't know anything else about this condition and am hoping that anything
you folks can add (especially references) will be greatly appreciated.TIA
Nancy
