I am constantly hearing comments like "using the bathroom is natural, but we
do it in private" with the comparison to breastfeeding. Perhaps if we
referred to breastfeeding as "normal" instead of natural it may prevent the
comparison. I would even say "it is as normal for babies to breastfeed as it
is for you to breathe...hopefully you get to that wherever you are.." or
maybe "breastfeeding is the normal way for babies to eat....do you eat only
in private?" or to be "politically correct" it could be said "breastfeeding
is one of the normal ways to feed a baby and unless all babies are required
to be fed in private, no baby can be asked to eat in private." In our day
(in the USA) of natural being equated with above necessary, it is not a far
stretch to put natural and breastfeeding right up there with "natural
childbirth" or "natural foods" , etc. In the USA those things may be nice
but they are certainly not societal norms...birth is far from natural for
most women and natural foods are mostly found at specialty stores and not
everyone can afford them...and at the very least the belief is that while
"natural" may be nice it is certainly not necessary and the alternative is
really perfectly normal.

Just my .02
