Regarding the one-week old "diabetic baby". The youngest baby I have heard of
being diagnosed with diabetes is 8 months. It seems highly unlikely that a
one-week old would be diabetic. As I recall, the mom was Spanish-speaking and
had had gestational diabetes. Is it possible that this is the result of a
misunderstanding due to a language barrier and inadequate explanation to the
mom? Could it be that the baby was supplemented due to rebound hypoglycemia
in the early days, and the mom, only understanding that this was because of
her diabetes, thought the baby had diabetes; and that the need for formula
meant her milk wasn't good for the baby? Just seems more likely to me.
