I couldn't agree more with you, Nina. test weighing tells one how much in volume a given baby took in at a given point. Nothing more, nothing less. It does not say what's in the volume, it doesn't tell anyone if that is what this baby needs in terms of nutrients, quality or quantity. It doesn't say if this is what baby will need at the next fedding moment or when that next moment will be.
  I can understand that in premature infants one would want to know what gets in, in order to assure healthy growth. But volume is just one parameter that influences growth and development.
