I can understand the questioning of the scale. If baby has not been
changed, weight before and after "feeding" certainly wouldn't go
down. If you did absolutely nothing with a baby and weighed 2 times
an hour apart, you wouldn't see the weight drop. Then in the most
recent post, Ellen mentions that baby "spit up once". Other than a
huge stool that runs out of the diaper, that is the only explanation
I can see for a drop in weight between the pre- and post-feeding
weights if you are using a electronic scale with an accuracy like
the BW scale.
Of course, diapers should not be changed between the 2 weights, even
if it is quite wet and/or dirty. Incidentally, it may be obvious,
but I'll mention anyway, weight checks in the first week or so
should probably be naked weights if you are comparing with hospital
weights since that's how they are done there. You can do this with
diaper on baby if you first put an identical diaper on the scale,
then "zero" the setting, take the diaper off the scale (scale will
show a -.7 oz or so, depending on diaper brand and size) and weigh
the diapered baby.
