Dear Friends,

I have a client who is nursing a 12 month old and has just discovered (6
weeks gestation) that she is pregnant. I have her permission to post. She
has gestational diabetes in pregnancy. She started checking her blood sugar
just in case last week and was alarmed to discover that her fasting blood
sugars were already between 110 and 115. She had been nursing first thing
in the morning, then testing when she got up. This morning her nursling
slept later and she tested before nursing and her fasting blood sugar was 89
(much more appropriate). She tested again right after nursing and it was
110. An hour later (still fasting, but with some water) it was 105.

Have any of you seen this before? Got any ideas?

She is seeing the doctor this afternoon and is afraid she will tell her to
wean. She is willing to do this for the sake of her unborn child, but would
rather not since her baby is still so young.

She is going to check her blood sugar most carefully the next few days and
try eating before nursing to see if that affects it and how. We would love
to have some expert input.

Thanks in advance!
