Hi All,
I have a REAL problem with any woman being put on ANY BC pill any earlier
than 6wks after birth. Do these Drs not realize what could happen?
When a woman has a baby, her body has a wound in the uterus thaat needs to
heal. Thus, there is bleeding that follows a fairly standard process for
each woman during this healing process. There are hormones that help with
this healing process, as we all know, that are flowing thru the body. If
there is a deviation in the bleeding, too much or none at all when there
should be some, then we know that something is wrong and can look for a
cause. When the woman starts taking these BC pills(regardless of dose
amount or type, and regardless of whether or not she is BF) the body is
compromised and the natural hormonal processes are disrupted. Any changes
in bleeding then can not be determined properly (and immediately)as a
problem re: the uterus (impaired healing, placental fragment, blood clot) or
as a problem(or natural process) related to the BC pill. Also, if the woman
does plan to BF, it is IMHO, criminal to prescribe and insist that a woman
take the BC pills before the minimum 6 wks has passed. Her milk supply can
very easily be permanently damaged requiring the baby to be put on formula,
and we all know the problems with that.
Do the Drs not read the instructions given by the BC pill companies? Do the
instructions say to wait at least 6 wks? And who made these Drs the judge
and jury of these women> If they want to go out and get pregnant again 2
months after having a baby, is it not their responsibility? Granted, I
would prefer that people use their heads and take precautions, but that it
is not my job to police everyones bedrooms/sex lives. I think that
education, rather than intimidation into taking meds you probably shouldn't,
would be the best route to go, and the most ethical.
Just my .02...

Who has counseled more than one mom for a lost milk supply that never came
back bc some holier than thou Dr decided she had to have a prescip or a shot
of Depo before she could take her baby home....
