Hi there. I would have the physician or feeding team evaluate the baby's
oral anatomy for any subtle things, ...such as clefts in palate,
submucosal, even, and evaluate the baby for any other anomalies. What
happens if you put the baby close to breast, touching nose to nipple, and
as the baby opens wide (does she?), bring her in CHIN first? Does she
create suction?

It is paramount, at this point, to keep pumping and to feed the baby some
other way, giving the parents clear instructions on this, and parameters
for out put and weight gain so that the baby can start gaining ground.

Babies who have problems feeding from either breast or bottle may have
other problems, and concerns that may be subtle at first, but which may
present other problems.

What does she do when she does latch widely, if she does? Does she start to
suck and swallow rhythmically?

Kathleen
