Hi all,
Thank you Janice for informing us of such interesting articles being published around the world.
To this one, I just had to add my comment, because it just seemed necessary.
so I sent this reaction to the paper and just wanted to share with you. I quote one para. from the article

Ellen Shein, IBCLC, LLL
Tel Aviv

"In the US, these mothers belong to associations such as the Militant Breastfeeding Cult and Inciteful Mamas. They breastfeed exclusively to six months, continue beyond a year and hate dummies, cots and prams; while breast, sling and mum and dad's bed are best. "

The description of the parental behaviour, in the latter part of this paragraph, linked with the beginning of the sentence, is liable to make readers feel that if you are not "militant" nor "inciteful" you cannot breastfeed your infant past one year. It is very misleading, because I, as a mother of 3, having breastfed all of children beyond that first year, having lived in the USA, and in Israel,

1. never heard of these organizations

2. feel that breastfeeding past one year is not only the norm, but an infants right.

In most parts of the world, children are still lucky enough to have parents who are not duped into believing that all of the above mentioned substitutes for mom's breasts and parents loving arms are better for them. One doesn't have to be a "militant" to understand, love and respect ones children and be responsive to their needs.

Sincerely,

Ellen Shein,

Tel Aviv, Israel
