Susan,
The nuk soother would not be my choice for newborn breastfed infants, because
of the very tiny diameter at the lips, which require the infant to bite to
keep it in place in the mouth.  This can train a small gape at breast, with
obvious problems.  There is of course all the research on decreased duration
of breastfeeding in babies given pacifiers.
On the other hand, Marie's use of a pacifier for the infant with the "stuck"
tongue was a stroke of genius.  Touche.
