Quinoa is actually a seed and not a grain, from what I have read. There are some who question the value of eating a lot of grains and say we are not biologically adapted to this, as it came with farming and hunter gatherers don't eat much in the way of grains. That is another discussion, I realize. But just wanted to note that quinoa is in a different category. And Weston Price did mention that it is used for pregnant and breastfeeding women in Peru. I don't know much about it being used elsewhere or what countries it is native to.

absolutely.

Quinoa is a great power grain, with as much protein as yogurt. Tell me if I am wrong, but in its native countries quinoa is a significant part of the diet for pregnant and breastfeeing women.

All grains - millet, barley, buckwheat, bulgur, steel cut oats, brown rice, quinoa - all are the wonder foods, incredibly useful for lactation and are the staples of healthy NORMAL nutrition for the whole family Alla Alla Gordina, MD IBCLC FAAP
