I posted a few days ago looking for an anesthesia policy for surgical patients.
Thank you for those that emailed back to me. I am looking for a policy for the
breastfeeding mother that has been given general anesthesia when she can
breastfeed following anesthesia she has received.
I have been advising our moms from Thomas Hale, MMM, that if they are
awake, alert and not feeling effects of drugs they are safe to breastfeed.
We have a new crew of anesthesiologists and they are telling the moms they
need to pump and dump or not feed their baby for 4 to 24 hrs depending upon
the anesthesiologist. These are surgeries such as gallbladder, pptl, same day
surgeries that they are discharge in a few hours.
I didn't want to write on if there was one in place somewhere that works.
Feel free to email me privately at [log in to unmask] or

Thank you,
Terri Klein
