Diane makes a good point about measuring our progress over a longer period
of time. I have another example:

Today the mother of a nursing 18-month-old asked me about nutrition needs
for nursing through pregnancy and tanden nursing. In our discussion, she
mentioned that her OB was fine with the idea of tandem nursing, and how
surprised she was that she didn't meet any resistance from him. This is the
same OB who (ten years ago) gave me my positive pregnancy test results and
in the same breath told me I must wean my 11-month-old "immediately",
followed by a long speech about the perils of nursing too long and the
dangers to my new baby.

We are making progress.
