I LOVED Leanne's letter. I had never thought of the discomfort over
public breastfeeding being related to not knowing whether to look or
not. I imagine that because breastfeeding is something that many
people never see, they feel a tendency to stare, which makes them even
more uncomfortable (now they're not only looking at a woman's chest,
they're STARING at it.) So it seems even clearer to me that part of
the answer is to get more women comfortable with breastfeeding in
public, so more people will see it and get used to it.

I also love "It's OK to look" as a tag line for a breastfeeding
campaign (from my US perspective). It could be accompanied by
beautiful pictures of mothers and babies breastfeeding, and include
some clever copy like "look at how many ways it protects baby and
mother . . . look at how much money is saved . . ." etc.

Who could take this on? I'd love to see LLL have the money to buy
media and run a campaign like this -- or any other breastfeeding
organization. But then I'm an idealist.
